2019 Brussels - exhibition, panels of the window

BRUSSELS, KNUSTFESTIVAL. Installation: The dream of the canal: "What have we done with our dreams?
Alice Sancey and Didier Sancey

The place of the exhibition was a big abandoned building along the canal, the Senne where coal was transported, it's a question for the ecology. We wanted to explore the memory of the place and our memories linked to Brussels.
This installation is composed of three parts that respond to each other: the glass window made together, the large drawings of Alice Sancey, my large canvas.

The glass roof can be read like a book. Drawings of mutant animals (drawings by Alice Sancey), were hidden in the window with a portrait of Rachel Carson, author of "Silent Spring". The mutant animal leads to a reflection on the reaction of nature to human intervention.
The two large drawings of mutant animals in the exhibition space were problematic for the organizers, as they feared the reactions of the local residents; however, we exhibited these drawings of mutant animals.

The large canvas (self-portrait in 1965 with a friend from Brussels), very realistic, on a black background, is a souvenir linked to Brussels. The painting was made from a photo.
